So let your light shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father who is in heaven. – Matthew 5:16 (DRB)
Her name was Candy and she was my “dock neighbor.” She was a power boater and I a sailor. Yet she and her husband were always kind, and often stood with dock lines in hand to help tie off our boat when we returned from a day of sailing. Our first night at the marina, I walked down the dark dock and became disoriented, nearly stepping off into the cold, murky fairway. By the next weekend, Candy had attached mini motion-detector lights to the wooden pylons near our boat. Never again did I worry about falling into the midnight waters, for just as I neared dock's end a friendly light would suddenly burst forth to show the way.
Thank you, Lord, for the kind people you place around us. Show me specific ways to practice kindness, thus shining a kind, helpful light of blessing to my neighbors.
